Stayn is a demon that first emerged from the ruins of Firehawk Valley. He is calculated and cynical, frequently manipulating others into doing his dirty work.

He believes his entire existence to be a mission of bringing equality to the world by whatever means suit the situation - a mission he dedicated to Dua, whom he views as his mother.

History

After Firehawk Valley was destroyed, Dua was the only surviving phoenix, witnessing Shtayn emerging as an ash black figure emerging from the burning rubble and mistaking him for a near-burnt-out phoenix. He identifies her as a mother but simply helps her escape without much comment, instead promising to meet up with her again one day.

After Dua's death between the #Yuko and #Delfid eras, Shtayn tracks down Dua's soul among The Underworld and merges with it to become KOTU - the king of the Underworld. As KOTU, Shtayn made faustian bargains with Fishbart Toyfeller and Patsy Toyfeller in order to stage The Asura Incident and gain control of the Enlightenment Crystal. With the Enlightenment Crystal#Chakra Shards spread across Planet Weissblatt, Shtayn uses his limited power to manifests on the surface as MARA - a posessed elephant puppet. After the Toyfeller brothers were stopped by volunteers, Shtayn/MARA takes matters into their own hands and lures the volunteers towards Equinox Gate to activate a reassembled Enlightenment Crystal and connect planet Weissblatt with The Underworld by force.

During the events of Zweitausend, Shtayn devolved back into a regular demon, posessing and impersonating the corpse of imperial general Johawk of Byodo.

Trivia

• The name Shtayn is a reference to Uri Geller's chant "Ekhat, Shtayn, Shalosh", serving as a demonic foil to Dua.
